The great cellist Pablo Casals made Bach's cello suites famous; he himself judged the suites: "They are the quintessence of Bach's work, and Bach himself is the quintessence of all music."
The OPUS Klassik prize winner Benedict Klöckner is one of the "most exciting cellists of his generation" (Welt am Sonntag). He played this Olympus of music most recently at the Alte Oper Frankfurt. The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung judged his Bach interpretations: "Kloeckner meanders with great poetry through given themes, narrates, playfully reflects on motifs. Kloeckner's search is for the inner spirit."
During the Corona pandemic, Benedict Kloeckner commissioned solo miniature compositions from composers from six different continents (Bongani Ndodana-Breen, Elena Kats Chernin, José Elizondo, Dai Fujikura, Geoffrey Gordon and Eric Tanguy) under the motto "Sounds of Light" as an echo of the global crisis period. These miniatures will be heard between the 6 suites.
His most recent recording of the Bach Cello Suites, released by Brilliant Classics, was RBB "Album of the Week" and was nominated for the "Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik".
Duration of the concert: approx. 2 hours 40 minutes including intermission
